About this clinic

Professional Routesetting (PRS) is a voluntary certification program designed by the Climbing Wall Association to provide an education pathway for routesetters working for climbing gyms. The curriculum for all levels centers on technical skills, industry best practices, and mentorship.

PRS Level 2 is designed for routesetters with prior experience and prepares the successful candidate for a role as a professional routesetter at a bouldering climbing facility. This session combines Level 1 and Level 2 Boulders.

What this course assesses

  • Work as part of a professional routesetting team
  • Identify, assess, and control risks in a bouldering environment
  • Inspect equipment and securely handle macros and volumes
  • Set, forerun, assess, and edit boulders to intended difficulty and function

Prerequisites

  • Age 18 or older
  • Able to work on ladders and with tools; can lift 50 lbs
  • At least 200 hours of routesetting experience
  • Can demonstrate climbing movement up to V4
Please note This certification will be a prerequisite for USAC Level 1 starting in 2027.
